I previously ran a thread asking what was wrong with my computer. The gereral consensus was that the mobo was bad.
We have a HP XT983, a mid to small tower. I am not sure what form factor to replace it with. The processor is a Athlon 1.4 GHz/200 with SDRAM PC 133 memory slots. I would like to re-use the processor and memory if possible to save money.
Is this a proprietary form factor? Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks ~Paul

How many PCI slots are there? Is there an AGP slot?

Why not buy the same model and keep the extra parts as spares or sell them on ebay.com?

BPB, there are 3 PCI and no AGP slots.
Why not buy the same model and keep the extra parts as spares or sell them on ebay.com?

That's a pretty direct replacement. You should consider an upgrade. All it will cost you is different RAM.

For that, you get USB 2.0, better video and an AGP slot for video upgrades. If you bought a USB 2.0 card, that alone costs $20 - half the price of 256MB DDR RAM.

Thank you BPB, I took your advice, received the mobo and went to work - all works great!
