can anyone recommend a good 2 or 3 megapixel digital camera for around 500 dollars?
i would like optical zoom as well as some manual features if possible. a usb connection. i would also like it to come with as many options as possible. ex-ac adapter, rechargeable batteries. the more i can get for the money. photo software is not important i have photoshop 6 and illustrator 8.0

Hi Robin, Welcome to SYSOPT http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
OK, here goes, go and get yourself a Olympus C-700UZ
It has a Huge 10x optical Zoom, and something like a 2.7 digital, which equals out to 1200mm~
ASA settings unheard of at 100-800
Shutter speed 1/2-1/000 of a second
Night mode
USB download, of course
and the most important feature of all..
SIZE..
If a camera is too bulky to carry comfortably and you leave it on the shelf at HOME,, just what good is it ?
This one is small enough to fit in a small carry case or a purse.
It takes the cheap SmartMedia memory-> www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) and AA's -> K-Mart 1600mah Ray-O-Vac $10.99 for 4 & $10 charger by same mfg p/n PS1 3in1 charger.(14 hr)
Radio Shack has the ONLY 1 Hr charger I've found for $20(check Steals & Deals, My post)
RS p/n 23-405

The 1st one is very imformative showing comparisons to the $900 Big Brother of the C-700

8mb memory card don't go far, unless you're a real estate salesperson who needs 1x2" pictures, the graph shows how far 8mb goes(I hope)
1: TIFF; 1,600 x 1,200
2: TIFF; 1,280 x 960
3: TIFF; 1,024 x 768
8: TIFF; 640 x 480
7 or more: SHQ; 1,600 x 1,200
16 or more: HQ; 1,600 x 1,200
11 or more: SQ-HIGH; 1,280 x 960
24 or more: SQ-NORMAL; 1,280 x 960
13 or more: SQ-HIGH; 1,024 x 768 (HIGH)
38 or more: SQ-NORMAL; 1,024 x 768 (NORMAL)
33 or more: SQ-HIGH; 640 x 480 (HIGH)
82 or more: SQ-NORMAL; 640 x 480 (NORMAL)
Get 2 sets of 1600mah AA's that way you'll never run out of juice on a day trip.
Hope this helps, somehow

If that Titanic link don't work, hit
www.tristatecamera.com]www.tristatecamera.com (http://www.tristatecamera.com]www.tristatecamera.com)
and search for the Camera.
Circuit City has em for $599 , you can stop by if one's nearby to check them out.
I was wrong about the minimum shutter speed(Min shutter 16 sec (manual mode), 1/2 sec (auto, shutter )16 seconds is long enough to do some night time exposure shots.. especially with the capacity to turn up the ASA to 800.

I checked www.resellerratings.com/ (http://www.resellerratings.com/) and did not find any info.
Ask is it a Grey market item, they don't have US Warranty. Ask for a letter/fax/e-mail to prove it prior to purchase.
There is a group of camera dealers in the north that all speak the same dialect, Saudia Arabia perhaps. They always have the cheapest price.
Go and buy a magazine, Popular Photography, look in the ads sections which is huge, you'll probaby find even better deals there.
Buy it with an American Express "Blue" card
This extends the warranty by double up to a year.
Price guarantee
Loss/Theft/Damage protection
0.0 % interest for 6 mo 10.9 after that
No annual fee
Card balances can be carried over with minimum pmt
Fraud protection
Return guarantee, even if the vendor won't take it back
lots of benefits

To directly answer, No I don't know anything about that company..
I used 3 price search engines to find the item, sometimes shipping is terrible.
This time it was $22, not tooooo bad considering a $500 item.
Lotsa luck

Need some operating parameters first.
Price Range, you'll spend more than you will admit to us http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Expected output->
Are you gonna print 5x7's or 8x10's or strictly use it for web posting ?
All this is pertinant to the final judgement.

i checked with abbey camera shop(local store where i live).
they have the following cameras with price:
kodak dc3400(not selling right now)
kodak dc4800-589.95
olympus c-700uz-579.95
i will have to pay a little more than any store i was able to find online, but at least they are local.

If they are NOT a chain store, you may be able to squeak them down another $20-30.00
Do you REALLY need a camera capable of printing 8x10 pics ?
The Olympus C-700 is the next one on my list,,
REASON-
I photograph some wildlife, and often times the girls are too far away to get really good close-up's of without a mega zoom http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I own a Sony Mavica FD83 which has been the best camera I've ever owned. It's not going to do well in low lights or indoor action shots, but it does a great job in every other situation. I am looking for a second digital, and I'm leaning toward Nikon's Coolpix 995 which gives you more bang for the buck plus has lots of controls I'm interested in.
Other cameras to consider:
Under $500 -- Kodak's DX3500, Toshiba PDR-M61 (under $500), Nikon's Coolpix 775.
Over $500 -- Epson's PhotoPC 3000 or 3100, Nikon's Coolpix 995, Sony Cybershot DSC-P1 or Sony Cybershot DSC-S75.
Your best bet is to check them out 'hands-on' to get a feel for how each will fit in your hands. BestBuy, CompUSA, CircuitCity etc should have some if not all of these models to try out in the store.

I have recently brought a digital camera and i love it! Its a SONY Cybershot DSC-F505V. It has 10x Precision Digital zoom and 5x Optical zoom and its takes snaps at 3.3mp CCD. It is great and all that i wanted! It tranfers data by usb and its very small and easy to carry around in a small bag. Comes with a Infolithium Battery too so that aint going to pack up on me in a hurry http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. You can find this digi cam at www.sony.com (http://www.sony.com) if you search hard enough http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
