Having a problem with one computer on network continually dropping connection with cable service.
The one on the wireless connection never drops but the one hardwired to the router is the problem child. I can go to their help wizard and restore w/o problem but it's just getting old having to reconnect a couple times a day.
Any suggestions before I fight with cable tech support? They don't like talking to me because of the network. Excuse is they don't do network support!

The 1st thing I would look at is the network card on the affected PC. Is Power managment enabled on it? U say you have used "their help wizard," who's help wizard is that? your ISP's? What exactly does the wizard do?

And latest router firmware

Checked your cabling

Replaced nic to see if it may be faulty?

In my experience it almost always comes down to the simple stuff like a cable or summat!

OK, The router is a D-LINK 614 wireless with the larest firmware loaded. The NIC is a Linksys and I did have trouble getting the drivers loaded but shows it's working OK, no conflicks.

The Help Wizard is for Charter Pipeline and I believe it pings the modem then reestablishes the connection.

Have checked all cabling and it appears tight. Doesn't appear to drop off network just internet connection.

Are you sure its not causing network dropouts?

Sounds like a dodgy nic to me!

replace cabling and test

process of removal and replace till you find the buggered part
unless you are an expert in microelectronics!!!
