I am gonna be building a linux system for which i already have a celeron 400 and a 433 (which ever one will overclock the highest)and some momory and a case and k/b and mouse and stuff like that. Do you think it would be wise to order a motherboard with a 440bx chip on it. The asus CUBX-L. I want it to be stable and fast. (fast as possible with the celeron). I read somewhere that the 440's use memory better that the newer 815's and other newer chips. I can get the board for around 85 bucks.
Also. did the 440's ever support the 133fsb? Any one know of a site to read about this chip and compare with others

Yes that 440BX did support 133 before it died. I used the Abit BX133 and it was great. Only problem is that the AGP div ider was not upgraded and was not changed AFAIK on any 440BX board. It only supported 1/1 and 2/3 which runs the AGP at around 83MHz, up from the 66MHz default. The 440BX was the best chipset where I am concerned. I loved the boards. I used the BF6 and the BX133 (both by Abit). If you can, try to get a C533 or C566. Shouldn't be much more $$ and it will run at 800MHz+ on a BX. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
