Best Internet Accelerators?????

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell which freeware internet accelerator(s) is the best? Which one has anyone had the best results and experiences with? I would really like to optimize my internet connection speed, but I don't want to download a program that will mess up my system or decrease my connection speed.

I'm looking for one that mainly tweaks the values of MTU, TcpOpts, Rwin, and so on in my registry.

I'm also using a dial-up connection and Win98.

Linux really does give faster internet all the time (when i could actually get it to work)
