Hi guys I am new to this but not new to PCs. Currently have a

P3 733
128 MB PC700 ECC RAM
27 Gig 7200rpm HD
DVD, CDRW
W2k pro

My question is, I am thinking of getting 256mb of RAM since it has come down in price so much but what dont know where to start. DO I just look for 184 pin PC700 ECC ram?

I statred to RIP my DVDs not its amazing how that works.

Thanks much

Your RAM is PC133 SDRAM. I am not sure if you can mix ECC RAM or not. ECC is slower than non-ECC. ECC can be read about here: http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci212028,00.html

If it can be mixed, I would get non-ECC RAM. Someone will come behind me surely with the answer to whether or not it can be mixed.

It is 168 pin SDRAM, BTW. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Good luck
Dave

How in the Futlockin' World did you get a motherboard for a P3 (plain) 733 and Rambus Ram?

I think Not!

Cody, where do I find a spec on the motherboard or other info so I can determine what ram, cpu and mother board is in this box.

Thanks

OK here's the deal. I don't keep much up on intels memory however buy the best memory they make. MICRON! Go to www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com) and you can put what kind of mother board you have in and it will tell you different memory that fits your board. Since you are using ECC which is usually for servers, pick the same kind that it gives you the option for. Which is ECC. I do belive mixing it with non-ECC would be bad.

They both work on different clock cycles. Read up on the differences on Crucial web page that I supplied above.

My 2 cents :P
