Is there any reason you're limiting yourself to one of those two boards? I notice they both have onboard graphics, is that something you're looking for? Give us your exact requirements and a budget, then we can suggest some motherboards and where to buy them from :)

Specs for the Biostar:

i was thinking of puting in a new cpu 550mhzto make it faster but was advised against it, in sysopt where i was asking for advice, said it would be better if i started afresh, which brings me to here, im on a tight buget beening 66yrs young.
Around £150 max the Asus is £125 biostar £134 i only use it for, surfing the net, chating ,webcam, d/loading music, printer, photo coping ,c/d rom and rewriter,i would like to use at least two or three usb ports for what i have, want good mobo and fast as possable.( bet you hadent ask now)
My wife plays a pasions and marjong but thats about it.Can you do any than what Bipolarbill has said.

Getting a new motherboard, CPU and RAM is good advice really. What do those prices you quote include? Are they for motherboard, CPU and RAM only?

In that case the Asus setup is a good deal, just like BpB recommended. Now I feel guilty for wasting your time... Sorry, I was just making sure you were getting what you wanted :)

I didn't quite understand the "Ernet.Ltd.T/A Overlockers UK" part, but our overclocking forums are definitely (not probably :p ) the best :)

Overclockers UK are a reputable company - I've completed a dozen or more online purchases with them, and they've always been helpful and quick with their deliveries.

Oh! Thanx for the link; being reliable and having good prices are too great qualities - do they ship to any country in Europe? Didn't find that info.

Yes, they ship internationally too. I'm not sure what the prices are like (try test ordering something to your country), but it shouldn't be too much for postage :t

Do you think if i used a better cpu the
AMD Athlon (Throughbred) xp 2400 (socket A)retail(cp-660-am with cooler&fan £61.69
512 mb DDR PC2700 cas 2.5 £54.05
ASUS A7V8X-X(socket A)
mobo (MB-022-AS) £42.30
TOTAL £148.04
Would this be ok to put together for a system and a lot better than the one sergested , would it be ok with 300 power pack, what you think (differnce £23.00)

I'd stick with a 1700/1800 processor for your needs, and use the money saved to buy a good quality 350W PSU - don't buy a "generic" model or use the one that comes with a case whatever you do. Same goes for the RAM - what make are you looking at? Crucial's reliable and cheap :t

They are both twin Mos ,whitch was recomended, the 1st one was 256mb ddr pc 270 and the other i look at is 512mb ddrpc 2700 cas 2.5 what ever that means i can only go on what you say what make of power pack you think

fishybawb
01-12-2004, 06:37 PM
OK, that RAM should be fine :)

If you want to order everything off Overclockers to save being hit by postage twice, I'd go for the Enermax 350W for £45 in their PSU section. It sounds expensive if you compare it to cheap generic units, but if you bear in mind that this is the component that will power the rest of your system, £45 is pretty reasonable :)

What CPU have you decided on? PC2700 RAM is overkill if you're running a 133MHz FSB CPU at stock levels (and don't intend to overclock).
