CD ROM hangs?? PLease help...

Ok i just upgraded to a ASUS A7M266 with a AMD 1.4 on it. Now for some reason my Cdrom is hanging everytime i try and access data from it for more than a few minutes?? whats going on?? please help... im running out of ideas...

Did you check the connections, drive settings (i.e. master, cs, etc) and settings in Windows?

Have you tried it with any other OS to see if Windows is the culprit?

Have you tried any other drive to see if the drive is damaged?

Well basically i will check but i dont see how any of those would be the problem seeing as everything worked fine on my old setup? I had already set the jumpers on my drives before hand... Where in windows would i be able to configure them? they look fine in the device manager.

Did you set the bios to auto detect all of your drives?

Yeah i set them to that. It was the first thing i did. Oh another thing, how do you install an updated BIOS? am i stoopid?

i used to have this problem with a delta cd-rom drive on my pentium 2 linux machine

i managed to stop it by uninstalling the software and unplugging the cd-rom and waiting 10 minutes

then try booting up without the cd-rom, wait, shutdown, and hook it back up

i know it sounds too simple but hey it works

Hey any idea is better is good seeing i have ran out. But what exact software would i be uninstalling? im actually having problem after problem here... Now what does it mean when my computer freezes and my pc speaker just does a continuous high pitched noise?
