OK, this is the deal .I just rebuilt my old pc and in the last few days it has been giving my kids real fits,(running win 98). I started looking it over and got a boot sector virus message when it starts to load. Now how do I fix it? Do I wipe the hard drive again, reformat and repartion it,or what? Any help as always will be appreciated.

Hi,
I started looking it over and got a boot sector virus message when it starts to load.
Boot sector virus are quite rare,I think it is a BIOS setup problem. Go into BIOS and disable virus detection and see if you still get the warning.
Regards...
Thanks muchmark,
Looks like that might have been it.I went into bios and found that the bios virus detect was enabled so I disabled it and it seems to boot fine.Hope it stays that way! Thanks again.

you need to run a current virus detection program to make sure it is a bootsector virus
if it is some can be easly remove but personaly I would run a Zero fill program and wipe that drive clean then reinstall every thing
Make sure any floppies you use in that computer are write protected and scan all other floppies you have to make sure they are not infected. dont want to reinfect it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yeah... I wouldn't just turn off you Bios level virus detection and forget about it... I'd make sure if there is a virus, it gets removed.
Well folks I did the Mc Afee's boot disk, and yes, I used write protection after forgetting to on the first 2 disks I made. And according to that I'm in the clear. Still don't know what caused the screw-ups to begin with, but I've got 4 kids, a wife and a sister-in-law all loading programs and messing with this machine. That's why we built it cause they're driving me nuts always messing with my puter.
Thanks again for the help as always!!!
