my motherboard manual says that is was built for p2 233 266 300 333 350 400. but considering that these and the celeron have the same core and that some celerons come in slot 1, shouldn't my new cel 366 work on my board. will a flash bios update solve my problem. I don't want to chance it and flash my bios unless I absolutely need to for cel 366 to work.

Your Celeron will work in your motherboard fine with the latest BIOS revision, just check your manufacturers website for it, and make sure you don't already have the latest version before you flash. Reflashing a BIOS with the same version won't do any harm, but it's just pointless.

All in all, I don't think you'll have any problems. Also make sure you have the correct choice of multipliers on your mobo. The 366 requires 5.5, and some budget mobos may only go to 5x.

thanks dominus I too thought it wouldn't be a problem but I have bios version 3.2 and that seems to be the newest version on their website. One of many problems is that the bios date is 10/12/98 which is hard to that this is their newest bios version. Well I guess I'll update version 3.2 with a version 3.2(dated 7-20-99). hopefully this will work but on the other hand I might just ruin my mobo for good. Oh yeah I do have a 5.5 multiplier and 66 or 100fsb. should be no prob but of course it is. thx again.
