how do i change my decoder card default playback resolution of 640x480 to 800x600, does anyone know?

Is that a seperate resolution setting from the normal display resolution setting found in the control panel?
I have an ATI video card. It came with hardware acceleration for DVD. But I'm only running a 450 MHz and need the acceleration.
I just built a 1 GHz system for my son now starting college, it has no accelerator nor does it appear to need any. The microprocessor of most newer computers is sufficient to handle the situation. So are the video cards.

yes, it's the "default" resolution for playing movies on the dvd decoder card, can you help me?
