I just installed Underground and haven't been as disapointed since Star Wars ep. 1.

The menus just plain suck! Obviously geared for console gamers who don't have mice, the menus are all but impossible to navigate around if you prefer a mouse. They are very inelegant and a very sorry sight compared to all previous NFS games (except the porche one that was pretty bad too).

I found all but 2 of the included sound-tracks unlistenable. The ones in Hot Pursuit 2 are 1000% better by comparison. I realise that EA wanted to fully emerse the player in the street racing thing, but how I envy those Xbox gamers who can play whatever the hell music they want during games.

The tracks are all nice, but short, I guess that fits in with the street racing theme, however I found it increasingly difficult to see where I was going unless I used the 3rd person view (where you see your car) and used the HUD map. Theres just too much going on and too much eye candy that really isn't neccessary.

Did I say the music sucked?

What do others think about this very hyped game. Does it compare to starwars and that f***ing JarJar Binx b***ard?

Nope, its just you :p;)

This is IMO the best racing game since CM2, while i will agrre th emenus are pretty sucky the gameplay is fantastic fun (though not much for realism) and the soundtrack is fantastic, catering for the main popular tastes today, Nu-Metal, Hip-Hop and Techno and as a Techno fan i cant get enough of it, TCM, BT, FC Kahuna, Fluke, Junkie XL, Andy Hunter...admittedly ive already got most of the tracks featured, but still, its heaven. That said im not one for nu-metal or hip-hop, but who cares, tracks can be disabled on an individual basis from the options menu.

If the music really gets to you that much there is a tool out there that allows you to import tracks into the game.

As for the tracks, all good apart from they follow the usual NFS problem of designing half a dozen tracks and then just varying them slightly for every race which gets on my nerves, however this is made up for by the fantastic amount of detail, though i cant say its ever put me off where im driving  and i have to ay the FPS view is the only way to drive in just about any driving game, paticularly recent NFS titles as the controls are just too touchy in 3rd person mode :(

All in all, next to CoD i would dare to call it the game of the year

Ok NFS:U sucks so bad. It's so lame! If you think words like bling bling are cool ( )and just got your driver's preminet or you're under 12 then go ahead and like it. I like much more detailed games like GT 3 and Nascar, but hey that's IMO. So if you like it then like it but my opinion I give it a 4 out of 10.

Cheers

This is IMO the best racing game since CM2,

HEHE...I'm with u Jakk.....one of the best racing games i've played. Music excellent...sortof pumps up the game. Still playing it....completed 80 or so races out of 111 or something like that....and really struggling to win now. WOW fast!

The menus are a bit weird and I don't need to use the mouse to navigate at all. I just use the arrow keys and ENTER instead. Easy!!

I like the street-racing cars more than the soundtracks. Basically, I don't understand those songs at all. I think most of them are not even in the Billboard list. :D

Anyway, the Underground mode is **** difficult and tough. I have to go through several races to get all the upgrades. Now I have seven custom-made cars ready to race online.

The online gameplay is a bit weird and it's definitely built for console gamers. On the other hand, I kinda like the racing part. You actually can experience the motion blur at top speed.

Wow! :p

it's a good game, but every next NFS has less and less options - no daylight, no turn on/off lights, no cops, no damage :( ...

only 640x480 in menu resolution wow!! that is probably the only game ....

but i couldn't resist it's charms :) i've completed the underground mode

my top speed: Nissan Skyline in drag mode --> 376 km/h

I agree with nearly all of your points, zybch. NFS6 was a pretty big flop too. NFS was my favorite PC racing game until EA took over. )-|

EA can make some lousy games, for ex. Sims! :D

I quite enjoyed Hot Pursuit 2 apart from only having 4 'real' tracks.
I've just noticed another gripe with Underground. Because the menu seems to be 640x480 I appear to be able to move my mouse way off the right side or bottom of the menu screen. It then takes just as long to get the mouse back, almost like its a non-scrolling virtual desktop or something.
I guess if you are a kiddie who uses their gamepad for the menus this isn't a prob, but for me its a real pain. I hate being forced to use one controller over another just so the programmers of a game can be that bit more sloppy.

Don't get me wrong with my first post. I think the graphics are fantastic, its the rest of the game that sucks.
I also dislike being forced to earn tracks when all I want to do is sit down and have a bit of fun. NFS 3&4 were good in this respect, only 1 locked track and a handfull of cars. I should be able to get hold of someones saved game to overcome this deficiency though.

ok the game is fun to play and its a good racing game but it could be sooo MUCH BETTER.

Things that suck about NFSU:

1. The compaign gets freaking boring and cut scene are quite lame
2. Most tracks are the same so it get pretty easy to navigate as u go along.
3. I got fed up with the compaign after 95/111 races cause they kept on unlocking me stupid stickers, which is really lame (the whole game is centered on the looks of the car, which wouldnt be bad if the performance part was as involved but it really is not)
4. MONEY - um why did they even include them? i mean u can buy anything in that game anytime you want, you can play the whole game on easy and still have enough money to buy every part twice. AND WORSE OF ALL you can earn money just by selling your car, cause for any car u trade in u get a new car with some cash?!!?!

I think its just you as well... I don't have issues with the menus, and one of my favorite things about the game is the sound track. The only complaints I have is that there is no replay feature, and online racing needs some work.

NFSU is a great game. Who cares if its not realistic, or if its not like real street racing. Its a fun game and thats all that counts.

About the soundtrack issue, do a google search and you can find proggies that will let you import your own music. Although, you can only import up to 26 songs. But at least its better than the songs that come with the game.

So whats everyones top speed? Mine was 231mph(I think about 380-390kph) in the RX7.:t

You shouldn't have to find a proggy to do that! EA should build one into their games. How hard could it be?
Its probably something to do with how they license the music in the 1st place.

I dont even get NASCAR as a sport, nevermind a game...round and round and round and round, its duller than F1 and that saying something

As for top speeds, in circuit mode ive had the Nismo Skyline GTR up to 215Mph and in drag up to about 230Mph

I only played the demo and wasn't that impressed, so I can't comment on the final product.

But for those who don't like the soundtrack, do what I do with all my other racing titles, load windows media player up before you start your game and play whatever music your into.

I play cm3, nascar 2002, f1 2002,NFSHP2 and rally sport challenge all the time with my favorite tunes playing through windows media player. It takes a bit of tinkering to get the sound levels right, but once you get it , it sounds like the background music was supposed to be there.

As long as you have anough ram(512), the media player in the background doesn't affect the games preformance whatsoever.

This is why I love pc games over consoles, you can customize your soundtracks. I make playlists for my racing games and when I'm sick of hearing them, I make a new one.

Street racing is a bit fun as your car can get banged up by civilian vehicles on the road.

Quite exciting and interesting!
