As you can see the system I have is not bad but since a recent winxp pro installation windows is slow. I installed deus ex invisble war and the game runs great but its the windows thats giving me headaches.

First a question. I reinstalled WinXP Pro with formating ...etc. etc. updating etc etc. but I'm wondering if it is a bad windows installation.
For example when I hit start menu and choose one program or right click on it it takes like 35-55 secinds until it opens.
Previous installtion was fine except the graphic performance.

So is this a bad win installation? Can I fix this without reinstalling again? Maybe "repair windows" option?? What else can I do?

Ive notice that while I am shutting down I get the...ending application screen with the name "ccApp".

My "standby" option is gone?

How and where do you change the drop/open menu speed ( I think its in seconds)?

Right clicking on the norton icon in the system tray (to disable it) it takes 47 seconds before the menu shows up!
Thats sloooowwww.

Doctor, what do you perscribe?

"ccApp" is part of Norton AV 2003 autoprotect .

This may resolve your issues.

Yea ..I should have checked for the ccapp on the web, but hey nobody is perfect. I did disable autoprotect and it seems quicker...

I had autoprotect always on (and on other builds) and they run fine. Could something got corrupted??

Okay, first visit this link and follow the easy yet effective tweaks to make on your XP: http://www.techspot.com/guides-os.shtml

Then, uninstall the Radeon 3.10 drivers...for the 9800XT (which I have) the 3.8 drivers are far superior. Unless some games don't run with the 3.8 drivers, I would really recommend this...I have done extensive tests with D3D and OpenGL benches...

It could be a problem with a service called indexing service (used under NTFS). Disable it and then uninstall it using the Add/Remove applet and go to Add/Remove Windows Components if the consensus points to IS as being at fault.

meskalin, I've tested with Desert Combat and Quake III as game benchmarks. Also I use Aquamark 3 and GLExcess as benchmark suites. For the XT I think they are the best and my specs are similar to yours save the cpu...I have an Intel P4 2.8ghz.
