Hi.
I've heard that the 2.4 C (200X12)is better in overcklocking than the 2.6 C (200X13)or the 2.8 C (200X14) etc.. Why is that? Can someone explain pls?
My system Spec :
CPU : 2.8 C
MB : MSI 865 PE Neo2S
Ram: 2 X 512 DDR 400 Kingston
GPU: FX 5600
HD : SATA 80 GB
the question is : I tried o/cing my system (only raising the CPU's FSB )a little using the Core Center, a utility provided with the MB and I reached very easily the 3.1 Ghz , wiz standart cooling wiz a stable Temp of 40 d c.
If I want to go further, I need to O/C my RAM and VGA, right? Does the DDR400 kingston handle a little o/c or do I need DDR 433 or DDr 450? What about the VGA?
Well i don't intend to do it, just a question.
Sure, don't forget about the good cooling.
Thanks in advance :t

careful with those software overclocking utilities. I heard that if you go too high and the comp locks up, you are screwed because you cant just reset it in the BIOS, because its all software. If you cant access the program, you cant turn it down. Thats what I heard, so be cautious.

To your first question, you get more free megahertz per dollar basically - not necesarilly a higher overclock. The 2.8C will go higher than the 2.4C in overclocking most of the time.
As for overclocking the ram. With Kingston, don't overvolt more than 2.7 or so I'd say. As for megahertz, it should reach DDR 3500 speeds with some loosening of the timings which isn't that big of a deal on an Intel system.
OC the VGA? You mean raise your AGP bus speed/AGP voltage? I wouldn't do either, as both, especially the first has been known to kill cards quite effectively if that is what your thinking of raising.

this is my current setup:
barton cpu at 2.27
512 micron 2100 ram
DFI lan party nf2 ultra b mobo
aerocool the glacier cpu hsf
geforce 4 ti 4800se @ 330/660
i can only oc my cpu by upping the multi so its at 17 atm and that gives me 2.27 (barton 2800) .
what do u think i shud upgrade to improve my pc performance..
c&c generals runs a little slow id say so what do i need...
cpu temp is 41 idle 52 load.
gfx temp is 34 idle 36-7 load

make a new post you will get more replies...
and get some new ram.... pc2100?!?!?!?! your really slowing down your comptuer there! at least pc2700, i would get 3200, or 3500. you get more performace with your fsb then you do with a high multiplyer.
and run your ram and cpu in sync when you get new ram, works a lot better.

TiGgErDbC nailed it. You're realy hurting your performance with 2100 memory. I vote for brand name 3500 or faster if you can afford it. Be sure its listed as compatible with your Nvidia chipset before you buy & Watch your temps, when you first overclock it.
Enjoy!
