My plan to overclock my 2500+ is to increment the fsb by 4mhz, then test for about an hour with Prime95 in torture test mode.. repeating until I reach my desired fsb.
Is this method suitable?
I know there are other programs available such as memtest, which I will most likely use once I'm confident the cpu is operating at a decent temp. + correct results are being found in the torture test.
Thanks for any advice.

Try BurnInTest Pro (http://download.com.com/3000-2086-10212534.html?tag=lst-0-7) and/or SETI@home (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.html) :)

I use Sandra 2004 (burn in's) and bencmark programs 3dmark2001 & 3dmark2003 running on loops to check for stability.

Trouble with 3dMark's you won't notice incorrect data calculation..
If I run my XP2400 (+ PC2100 ram) at stock speeds (15x133) my Epox likes to run it at 134.6 instead, running 3dmark 01/03 is fine... run prime95 and errors quickly appear...
Drop the fsb in bios to 132, it sets it at 132.8... no prime95 errors (running for well over an hour).. 3dMark scores actually went up slightly, I assume due to the CPU not having to re-calculate certain things.

Prime95 is the way to go IMO... Especially the newest version which lets you customize or choose for a list of about 3 different type of stress tests. I like it because it stresses not only the CPU, but the memory as well. If there's a problem, it'll be sure and let you know
With sandra, 3dmark, or many of the distributed computing clients, the only way you'd know there was something wrong is if the computer froze. However, its enterily possible that your PC won't crash, but is still producing incorrect results.

RamonGTP....I got ya.
Maybe I should download Prime95 and give it a shot when stressing...see if I get any different results.

After finding your desired overclock I would recommend running prime for at least 12 hours to ensure she's stable. Personally I run prime for 24 hours to be positive she won't miss calculate. What's the since of oc'in if you can't trust the calculations to be correct? And what is the newest version of prime?

I like SiSoftSandra 2004. Its an awesome program, and has a burn-in feature.
