Afternoon all :)

I trust you had a good Christmas and new Year?

There. niceties out the way, and down to business :p

I've decided that my XP2100 tbred A no longer keeps me satisfied. It's too old for me, and can't satisfy me the way a younger faster model could... Kinda like the missus!

Anyway, I've been thinking for a very long while about getting an XP2500 Barton. I can pick one up new for £55 now, which looks to be a bargain.

I've not overclocked before, due to the CPU I'm running (for obv reasons) but I'm well familiar with the who-what-when-where-how aspect of it, so I would like to overclock at least a little when I get it.

So, my question to you is:
What is a good HS/F combo to use with this cpu? I'm not entirely sure you see...

At the mo I'm running an Asus A7V8x mobo, and the HS/F are just standard, as sent with the company that built the computer for me.

Any other details needed? I'm not sure, I'm tired, but if so, just shout me and i'll sort it :)

Cheers lads n ladies, all help and opinions welcome and appreciated.

Regards,

Vantec and TT Silent boost are both good.

the XP2500 barton should OC to at least XP3200 speeds pretty easily. That would mean running the FSB at 200 and multiplier at 11. It is likely to do this that you will need some decent 400Mhz RAM to run at 200FSB (PC3200). I have XP2800 at the moment and running at 210FSB.

What's the o/c potential using 333 ram? not much? :s I'm running Crucial which I think o/c quite well.... not sure though.

Money is a factor, as I'm saving for university now (only september!) so i'm not really sure what to do =\

cheers for the help,

Never had Crucial before ... but from what I've read...think you will probably get it to 350-360Mhz with decent timings. DDR400 will probably be required to run as XP3200.

Well I won't be aiming that high anyway, I'll be after 150 - 200mhz extra which should be easily attainable with a bit of patience.

Only thing is, I just found out that this mobo is one of the earlier AV8x boards that doesn't support 333 fsb, so I'm gona get me a used nforce2 :)

What's your opinions on this?

It looks pretty **** good to me. I won't be buying a new cpu for a while, I've better things to spend my money on, but I want the opportunity there for when I'm ready.

I used the Thermaltake Volcano 12+ with the duct mod. My temps are really low and consistent. The highest they have been were after playing MSFlightSIM2004 for about 5 hours at 42C. I have 2 case fans blowing in/ 2 out. However I just upgraded from a Gforce4 4200 to a ATI AIW 9800pro and noticed some increases in temp (working on that now). Not a very good cooler on the Made by ATI version.

I o/c my 2500 to 3200(400) w/ Mushkin Black 3200 Level II ram running 2*256 (dual). IT was only $40 than 2 sticks from crucial of lower quality ram. I did have to up the voltage of mem to 2.65 to make it stable at the tight timings of 2.2.2.5 1:1

This is the best overclock for the $$ since my bh6 300a/450 and 366/550

oh... I'm using MSI K7N2 Delta-L

Love the Vantec Aeroflow. And it works well. Check out my post on And the winner is 2500 V. 3200 on CPU's forum. Both were on the Aeroflow and the 2500 is rock solid stable at 200x11.5!

I have run it up to 200x12 for some applications, but I think the mobo is not as supportaive as the one you are looking at, got a few crashes. Good luck
