what are your guys favorite first person shooters i am running out of games to play.

This thread will get bombed with recommendations! Personally my fave FPS of all time is Deus Ex, but that encorporates RPG elements too. Postal 2, it's going cheap in most places, uses the Unreal engine I'm led to believe, it's easy and short, but good for a cheap laugh. I'm not big on FPS though, so I'll leave any more to others who've played em, but I'm hearing alot of talk about Call of Duty.

My hat goes off for CoD and BF1942! Best FPS ever man. The graphics, gameplay, and maps are totally killer man! These games also have one of the best online experiance ever! If you don't buy it, well, either you dislike FPS or your not into gaming.

BF1942 has the best maps and mods easily out there. The graphics are awesome, not to mention the unreal gaming on the internet. I'm the leader of a clan (***three star clan***) and I still have ppl join even though I cannnot afford a server! I mean that alone :eek: my eyes! My older bro is starting up a website which is pretty nice also. :p :t

Call of Duty....what to say! LOL Just an awesome game altogether! Ok, so I'm a noob only playing it once, but hey, it :eek: my eyes too. Just amazing! The players online are killer tough though. I accused some guy of being a hacker just because him alone could defeat a team of 5 noobs (me being one of them!) LOL (I was wrong he was just a kickin player) After that I was just ok, I am totally getting this game!!!

Nearly at the end of NFS:U and it has got too hard. Cant beat the buggers and am getting fed up with that too. Can always dream about half-life2 :mad:

umm... battlefield is so far away from cs in all areas, i think the only similarity is they are first person shooters and have guns? If you say those 2 games are alike you might as well say windows paint is the best first person shooter out there.

You say you're running out of games to play. Which ones do you currently have or have you tried and liked / didn't like (FPS-wise that is)? One that I personally like that I didn't see mentioned here yet is Jedi Academy. You can use light side or dark side force powers and your lightsaber or you can go all John Wayne and bust out the big guns or any combination thereof. It has a half decent story too and different endings based on whether you opt to walk in the light or fall to the dark side.

Oh, another one, in the WWII genre based on Return to Castle Wolfenstein is Enemy Territory.
It is a free-standing wolfenstein mod. You don't need RtCW to play it. Not only is it free-standing but it's FREE! That word we all love. It's supposed to have some nominations for multiplayer Game of the Year 2003. It IS multiplayer ONLY though. I'd love to get into it more but I gotta figure out why it keeps crashing my machine first (not a very good endorsement I know. . .but its FREE!!) :)

Whaat!! does no one play Quake II any more? (Am I showing my age here?) I like the new games but I like going back now and then also. Unreal 2 doesn't let you move fast enough (good eyecandy though).
Quake III still rocks.
UT & UT 2003- excelent.
SERIOUS SAM games are also great.
Return to castle Wolfenstein is another good one.
The Halflife series was good but they don't seem to draw me back.
I thought Borringwind was a waste of money (its considered more role playng than FPS though).
I also liked Diablo 2/LOD, jedi outcast and AVP.
So many games... so little time.

Get Ghost Recon [ Gold Edition ], then go get yourself all the excellent mods. It plays on-line and SP, also great in 3D with the appropriate glasses. This game still has a large world wide, die-hard following. Caution- do not get into a sniper 1 on 1 with any of the regulars, unless you have your stuff together, or a death wish. ronach

for this i have to recommend NOLF2 - on easy mode you dont even have to use stealth. its fun stealth game, with big guns too. and its quite cheap now



my fav fpses.. UT, UT2003, QIIIA (sorry, v predictable :D)

the whole training thing is very very stupid and unnecessary.
and to top it off, you cant even use the 2.0 features unless your honor is 15 or higher.

some people cant devote their lives to a video game, they have lives to lead too. i like to just jump online and have some fun for awhile, but all that **** prevents it, which leads me to another point, matches take like: 15 freaking minutes because all but 1 person on each team dies and then they both camp...)-|

However, that game does bring back memories of times when games were actually games and not stupid, monotnus, retched, "see how many pieces of lead are stuck in that guy" fps games. Of course perfect dark beats out Golden eye so easily. Same company, same system, same idea, 10 times better. :D

Try Clive Barker's "Undying". This game is incredible in it's play, but I don't think it ever really gained much popularity because it was released with no multi-player right at the height of multi-player play. I recommend playing it late at night with all lights off in the house and the 5.1 sound cranked! The first time I heard the whispers over my shoulder, I nearly s**t myself!! lol

i doubt it. Medal of Honor Rising Sun was a complete dud IMO. The campain was way too short and the multiplayer maps suck bad. This game unless with a nice makeover and facelift, will do terrible.

yeah!,..I think I first saw the ad promo on the EA games main site a while back and it doesn't get much promo....maybe because there too busy with the Rising Sun Campaign...

If I were game makers <i would give a little more attention to PC gamers as there has to be jsut as many of these as those who own a gamebox...... PC games sre so much better anyway...

Just to reply to your earlier post Rabbitrunner51, Black hawk down is a great game, it is far far more stunning to look at than land warrior, etc. It is fast paced with a great online multiplayer experience, though im not to pleased with the way they setted up the multiplayer server lists, (takes a while to load servers, not very interactive) and i'm not quite sure on the single player campaign as i have been hooked on the multiplayer play. It just basically depends on your taste of FPS's.
Like fast paced? Go for it
More tactical? Try something else

Yes,..Retrun to Castle wolfenstien is just about the best all around of this type .....

When it came out and well afterword , the critical reviews were 5 star.....plus.
Very well done..and it holds its own with any shooter type or war game out there...excellent graphics and storyline.....( a little kinky with the alien type experiments and all )

I might just dust this off and play it again as I never quite got to the end of it....almost!

that's kind of funny, since you mention CS being so ugly it can't rate then put DoD 6th when it's exactly the same engine and looks pretty much the same, yet dod manages to use even uglier "brown/grey mess" textures.

As for the best FPS games, Half-life still tops the pile for me, I have no qualms with the graphics, they're good enough for me to enjoy the superb story telling and action sequences.

CoD is a favorite right now for both graphics and gameplay. However, there aren't any shadows in CoD, because if there were, a 9800XT would have a hard time playing that game.

Never could finish SOF2 single player game. But the multiplayer game is a blast. Lot's of custom maps and mods like OSP and ROC, and it has Evanbalance's PunkBuster to curve the cheating epidemic.

Call of Duty's single player was astonishing. Unbelievable. The multiplayer game is a blast too. But I like the fast pace of SOF2 a little better, but since they added the Headquarter's mode to COD, if find myself playing it a little more.

Both SOF games are pretty good, SOF1 lesser so becuase of its more cartoony feel, but SOF2 is well worth a go and a rare example of a game that lasts in todays '6 hours max' gaming world

Ehhhhhhh....nope

I find it very hard to believe that a 9800XT would have any trouble at all playing any game on this planet considering it is soley the fastest card available at present (apart from the 5950U in some applications)

I doubt HL2 will suck, it'll have a hard time living up to the original, ESPECIALLY since it's going to come with steam (YAY!) and valve's attitude has seemed to turned to treating the users like beta testers and other ****, but hey, I'm sure the actual game itself will be good. At least I hope it will :/

I'm not going to be looking at the multiplayer aspect of HL2 personally, I'm just hoping it delivers a great single player mission, like the original.
It's true it's gonna be tough living up to the original but they've done everything but rush it, so hopefully it'll deliver.

Realistically, this game will be awesome...no doubt...but one must take in account that its always the case the original sticks in our gut as a favorite and comparing is not always the best way to approach it....

I can tel you the grahics will be awesome if not better,considering our new technology....and it will be just great in its own genre...

Take for example Max Payne....while th efirst one is a favorite with little to complain about and loved by all...the second is equally impressive..with some new and exciting differences

I know I will buy it regardless...and CAN wait.....after all its just a game....not a heart transplant.
