after system warms up, mouse starts behaving oddly, jerking around and have no control over it. it's a Mitsumi scroll mouse, showing up in device manager as a standard PS/2 mouse, DFI socket 7 motherboard, 500 mhz CPU, 128 mgs RAM. it's been running fine for months, this just started. tried downloading the drivers and such from the Mitsumi website, but doesn't help. still, after about 30 minutes, the mouse bounces all over the screen
HELP

Have you tried cleaning it?
Take the ball out and clean everything with a q tip and alcohol. (rubbing, not drinking).
If that doesn't help you say you reinstalled the drivers, but how about the mouse?
Delete it in the device manager and then reboot and let winderz find it.

mouse is new
ball is clean
it works fine for about 30 minutes, then just goes crazy. anyone heard of any software conflicts that would cause this?

Is the mouse connected to a PC console switch (allows one keyboard and mouse for multiple PCs)?

Had this happen to a computer I was on today in school.. Only it know the mouse wasn't dirty, this one was bouncing EVERYWHERE on the screen. Couldnt control it at all. Then about 2 min later it stops. When it goes out of control it even opens a program sometimes, and moves the taskbar everywhere! This the same problem you have?

If you're sure it's clean, then it's almost certainly a symptom of CPU or IRQ overload caused by multiple programs or hardware conflicts, or swap-file usage. Device Manager showing any hardware problems?
Get rid of programs running in the background.

can you try another mouse? just a standard PS2 type?
If that still does it, then its got to be an IRQ issue.
Also, I know of a LOT of laptops that have this type of problem, and usually its a hardware issue with the system board, but some do have patches.
Good luck

going to try a new mouse today. i'm almost positive it's something else running in the background, as i have checked fans and temp and all is running properly. so will be uninstalling everything unnecessary
thanks for all the suggestions

I noticed you mentioned Socket7. Have you installed the latest drivers for your motherboard's chipset? Could be an IRQ miniport routing issue. If so, the latest chipset drivers could help.

HEY,
Just had an athlon do that very same thing.
In this case it was an IRQ conflict between the sound card and the mouse.
Good Luck
