Hi all.

Current setup:
XP2400 (15x133)
2x256mb PC2100 'Nanya' RAM (dual)
Epox 8RDA+ (Nforce2)
WD 80gb 7200rpm (8mb buffer) HDD
Crucial Radeon 9800Pro

Current benchie results: 3DMark 03' (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1840204) and 3DMark 01' (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7412407)

I'm considering one of two things;

#1
Could buy some PC3200 Corsair value select and overclock my 2400 to say 14x166 or 13x166.. but I think it would need unlocking?
As currently changing the multiplier causes it to revert to 15x100 and 'overclocking error' (unless thats the RAM causing this).

#2
Buy the same ram, but also buy an XP2800 (or perharps XP2500?) and overclock it to 200fsb.. would this also need unlocking? (I've never actually unlocked a CPU before, thats why its an issue :) ).

Which do you think is the best option?

In either case, can anybody recommend a cooler? As I'm currently stuck with the stock HSF.

Thanks for any help/advice.

I would go for #2 but instead of buying the 2800+ Get the 2500+ Barton, you can easely jump it to 3200+ speeds, even if it's locked.

I have that same motherboard.

Hre are my current setup.

ATI All In Wonder 9800 Pro.

8rda+

2x 256mb Crucial DDR400

XP2500+ Barton

80gb Maxtor 8mb cache

I have the cpu and the memory runing sync with one another at 400fsb (200x2) and It's very stable.

Buy yourself some PC3200 and up the FSB rather than the multiplier ...take it slow and run stability tests after each hike or you may burn something out.

Since he's opting for a new cpu, I thought I would re-recomend the 2500+ Barton :D

So its better value to buy the 2500 over the 2800?

Ok so new plan, matched 2x256mb Corsair value select (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54473) (DDR400), and a Barton XP2500.. then up it to 3200 speeds.

I'll need to update my bios from epox I notice to get DDR400.

Cooler recommendations?

Also: anyone bought from Ebuyer? I usually buy from Scan cause I can go pickup my stuff :) .. but they don't have what I want, Ebuyer does :/

btw forgot to mention my PSU, just incase it matters: Enermax 350w.

Ebuyer seems fine.......have bought a few things from them and have never had any problems. Scan is a good place to buy.....bought nearly all of my current system components from them...and they usually have everything in stock...next day delivery.
Just put a Thermaltake Silent Boost in a similar system and am running reasoanably cool. 1.8V and sitting idle about 37...full load 46-47 at faster than XP3200 (210x11). That was to replace a Vantec Aeroflow which was just as good....but I found a bit noisy with a sortof constant humming going on. Both are pretty good and will allough overclocking easily with a good boost in CPU Vcore.
