Thanks Jakk.

For those who want the conclusion without the hassle (catchy ;)), the test was between the official 3.10s, and the DNA and Omega variants of it. Basically, the DNAs give best framerate, the Omega's best IQ and the official's come last, but have the "advantage" of being WHQLd :t

Windows Hardware Quality Labs. It means that the driver's been certified by MS as being 100% compatible with whatever version of Windows. Or so they say ;)

did the jury ever come back on whether the 3.10 was safe?

I used the 3.9's and the 3.7's when I o/c'ed my 9800 Pro with the stock sink. Both were nearly identical clock speed wise, with the 3.7's being able to run a tad faster IIRC. Heat isn't all that much more if it can run with the stock sink with that horrible thermal pad that keeps the HS sitting off the shim as it is so thick.

You may be able to do it without AS epoxy and just AS since the heatsink does have springclips.

As far as I remember, it's only the 9800 series that's affected by the overheating issues. If your cards fan is running OK, it should be alright. Older Catalysts are available from ATI's site. Select your OS, choose "Graphic driver" and "RADEON family" from the lists at:

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

then click "Go" and scroll down to the "Previous Driver Versions" link. You say the card's new - did you uninstall your previous cards drivers before installing? This is especially important if the old one was an nVidia.

C&C work but same problem with COD

so i went into ati display setup and Direct 3D
change the setting for arisotropie filtering
from 2x-------->16x

it now seems to work x ing fingers
