Hi folks,

I just can't seem to understand this account/login thing with Windows XP Pro. I have a single PC with Win XP Pro installed on it. I have set up four accounts: (including the default admin account). I have a daily use account for me (users rights), my brother and sister (each with guest rights).

I have Outlook Express installed on all four accounts. It's configured for my mail settings on two of the Windows accounts - default Administrator and the other User account. Strange thing is that Outlook Express seems to work fine on the default admin account but I keep getting error messages (10061) when I send/receive mail on the User account. Keep in mind that the mail settings are exactly the same on both . Does anyone know what's going on here?

10061 is a socket error. You guest accounts seem to not be able to talk to other systems on port 25 or 110.

Try shutting off the XP firewall for your conenction first or temporarily disable your third party firewall.

If it works you will need to determine how to open those ports in the firewall.

I only get this error when account settings are wrong or my firewall is not set correctly.

One final test:
Open the command prompt in XP by Start, Run, CMD, OK
Type in: TELNET MAIL.YOURSERVER.COM 110
Enter your username and password and see if you can connect. (Follow the prompts)

If you can Outlook Express may need extra rights to get mail. Try changing the rights to something other than Guest to user or Power user.
