Do you have Office installed?

I'm at work on another PC p450/win98/government network). Is there anyway to tell what might be running or cranked-up in background at that particular moment in time? I realize they're all "running", but want to find out what app might be using resources at that time.

I'm sitting here modifying some documents, and all of a sudden something really starts hitting the harddrive. It does that for about 40-50 seconds, then quits. I've checked things like the antivirus app and such for preset starts, but can't seem to arrive at any conclusion. I realize there are several things in background when you hit cntl+alt+delete, but nothing that shows you what is banging the harddrive right then.

For a little more clarity: for those of you who are familiar with big mainframe computers, when you start processing a job you can actually see where it is and what resources it's gobbling up. Not sure if that confuses or makes it clearer.

Am I losing it, or have I forgotten some basics? Any thoughts??

Most likely your computer is low on resources and using the swapfile excessively.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Monitor

Yes, I do have Office installed, but I didn't know if it could have been company spyware evaluating temp and cache files. Getting a little paranoid, I guess. I did download TaskInfo200 for demo, which might be what I need.
