This game has always kicked my ***, but I love it. I had beaten it with codes years ago, but decided to try it without cheating. What a riot! There's areas that must simply be memorized and done over and over. Anyone else that thinks it CAN'T be beaten without cheating just hasn't played through it enough.

i never play cheating, although I might save every ten seconds if i hit a hard bit and read through a walkthrough if i'm really stuck.
I like to save all my ammo and good weaponery for the real difficult parts, consequently, usually have plenty even at the end, this does become frustrating in gameswhere you end up in jail and they take all your weapons off you.

I played this game so many times and if I play it now it will be a piece of cake for me after all those games like counter-strike, ut2003 and other ones.

i never really had a problem with half life, i play all my half life related products on hard. it gets very hairy at times i admit, but its nothing a little perserverance cant solve.
and i thought the action in blue shift was better, and if you havent beat opposing force yet, hop to!

well opposing force is an actual mod. blue shift is more of the same (half life) but they say you are a security guard. i think it got hairier, so if you beat half life and want some more shoot-em-up i recommend it.

On hard mode Xen must have been a real bugger to get through. Ah Xen, the only downer on what is otherwise a masterpiece :(
Mind you Gonarch aka the big ballsac with legs was good for a laugh

opposing force is where you take the role of a marine and fight your way through just as freeman did.

Not to hammer on too much, but the good thing Gearbox did with OpFor and Blue Shift is to cut Xen down to a minimum and stick to the original gamelay values of HL. The downside, they're both an ickle on the short side, Blue Shift paticularly.
As a sidenote has anyone played Gunman Chronicles for HL?

I played Gunman, It is older than HL I think, didn't like it. HL is much better.

Gunman is an expansion for Halflife that was released at least a year or two after HL, it came between OpFor and Blue Shift if memory serves

If i think what im talking about, do you start in some ship in gunman in the begining. you also then fight with machines and dinosors. In the ship everything starts to explode, you run with some guy.

Dinosaurs, high tech dudes and a guy what looks like Custor, oh and soem Halo-esque tanks
Was kinda a cross between Jurrassic park, Halflife and Indiana Jones
