My girlfriend's printer has recently not been printing properly. The colors do not print out as they appear on screen and the black ink does not print. Both cartridges are brand new and I've done the head cleaning task supplied with the printer software. I've even cleaned the cartridges and the housing for the cartridges, but still no luck. The printer is a bubble jet Canon BJC 4300. Any suggestions?

I suggested to her that she can buy a good laser jet printer for $150, but she doesn't want to give up on this one if there is something that can fix it.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

CAW

Sounds like the print head is worn out! It cost some where around $50 to replace the print head. Per Canon website, the print head is only good for aprox. 2,500 copies.

You guys, I believe the Canon uses printheads that are part of the Cartridge. I.E. did you try new cartridges?

FACT

The Canon BJC-2000 Series, BJC-2100 Series, BJC-4300 Series and BJC-4400 Series Color Bubble Jet Printers Use the BC-21e cartridge/BCI-21 tanks for printing color documents. The BC-21e contains the print head unit and two replaceable BJ tanks - the BCI-21 color BJ tank and the BCI-21 Black BJ tank. When you run out of ink, you can replace either tank without replacing the cartridge.

I hope CAW doesn't waste his or his girlfriends money buying a second new set of tanks just to find out it's the print head!

You can also try dabbing some paper towel soaked with a little rubbing alcohol against the bottom of the print head. If that doesn't work you will have to replace it.
