does anyone why my scanner(ibm idea scan 2000)has been producing an unwanted line down the side of my photos that i scan in it is really annoying and i dont want to spend too much time trying to correct it in a photo editing program.

thanks in advance

could only be a few things im guessing. did you try cleaning the glass and inspecting it thoroughly for marks and whatnot?? other than that it sounds like a defective scanner. good luck.

If it's a line perpendicular to the scanning movement then I might know what it is...

Whenever you scan something all scanners make an adjustment (auto-calibration) on a special area right before the scanning area starts, this area is just a strip of white that the scanner analyses & uses for color balance. It could happen that such white strip got dirty (not all of it, just a spot) and all the row starting from that point gets a different color.
You'll have to take the cover out of the scanner to try to clean that out. Just be carefull...
