For $1000 you can build a pretty good pc. Though if you dont know how, i would recemend you either buying all the parts and paying a pro to put it together, getting a uncle/aunt or friend to help out or read a lot of tutorials and stuff.

Anyways..

1Ghz Athlon
GeForce2 64mb
256mb ram
40-60 gb hdd
sb live!
modem/ethernet card
ps/2 opticle mouse /w wheel
ps2/usb keyboard
19in moniter
atx mid-tower case
and a mobo

for under your $1000 buget.

Or if you have an extra $200 or so, make that a 1.4ghz 266fsb athlon, 512 mb ddr ram, a mobo that supports socket a and ddr sdram, and a visiontek geforce3 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

A good place to buy good oem stuff (thats new) is directron.com.. computergeeks.com has some used stuff for pretty cheap too.

Suggest going to one of the computer sites that lets you personalize the PC. Pick every little thing that you want on it.. Save a lot of money this way by getting rid of the stuff you dont want, and get the stuff you do want..

my sister just bought an HP Pavillion 1.2GHz with CD-RW and 12X DVD-ROM. She paid $1000 at Circuit City. The PC is OK, the price...maybe.... it would probably be cheaper to just build one.
