Missing the point

Man, been over a year since I was last here http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well, Fairly simple question, do you think it is worth it to upgrade to the DSC S85 instead of DSC S75?

The DSC S85 is 4.1megapixel, and the S75 is 3.3. I am just wondering, is it worth it for the amount of increase?

Here are 2 pics with the DSC S75:
(warning, HUGE!)

And here are 2 with the DSC S85

I will be mostly taking pictures of scenery and cars, and cars with scenery http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thing is, my dad would tell me if he wanted the higher quality or not, but he is too drunk ATM to care.... LOL

So, the DSC S75 is $1199, and the DSC S85 is $1399. Is it worth it?

-edit-

Oh yeah, and the prices are in Canadian dollars, so don't say I am getting ripped off http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif I may be getting them for COST, which is $800, but they would be about the same difference apart......

That is a decision only you can make, what is the end result you desire ?

If 8x10" prints is the max, then stay with the lower end, I'm not familar with either of those cameras, perhaps you could stretch the 3.1 to 11x17" I dunno.

Are ya gonna make posters ?

Consumer & some Prosumer cameras I've read about, but not those .

One thing gripes me about the Sony is the cost of the memory "stick"

Smartmedia or CF can be had at www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) for very reasonable.

Do you need much zoom, check out the Olympus C-700UZ or its bigger brother the C-2100UZ

MtSnow has used one of the latter and swears by it.

I personally like the smaller edition of Digital cameras for ease of carry as I venture far away from the vehicle.

uh, you mean babes in cars.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Actually I have a Nikon 990 I got it becuase of all the manual gizmos.. Problem is they are complicated.. I may learn how to use all of it some day, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I agree with doc on the size, of the pics. I'm set though if I get into taking poster pictures. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I have happily followed the advice of a professional photographer - he says not to waste a huge amount of money on a digital camera - you just cannot yet get the quality and depth of a good high quality 35mil camera and a DAMNED good scanner......

high speed 35mil film has virtually infinite resolution if you know what you are doing. No matter how good, a digital camera that you can buy on the market today does not. At some point, the resolution breaks up, no matter how many mega-pixels it has.....

Scanners, on the other hand, and the right software, that you can do a lot with....

my 2 cents and a pro's 2 cents worth....
