Is it safe though? Thanx... R@Zieli@n Hawkeye178 08-23-2001, 11:44 PM I have a friend that almost bought everything from Ebay for his Dually Pentium 3 800MHz System, had a problem with one of the CPU sockets, don't know if it's fixed or he got a new one. Good Luck, Hawkeye178 surrealchereal 08-23-2001, 11:57 PM It could be good, it could be bad. I can't imagine you would save that much money on ebay, if you can, I'd be concerned, AndreRIO 08-24-2001, 12:00 AM yes, it is safe. i bought "pctools for dos", a vaio keyboard and mouse. madfish 08-24-2001, 12:08 AM it's up to you, I got almost burned this last time and did once befor on a very low $$item. I'll not go back for anything except to pick up hot wheels from a friend I know there. and he always ships to me first too. I'm going to stick with tirgerdirect and I'm trying out computer geeks right now. Madfish Razielian 08-24-2001, 02:19 AM Thanx guys for helping me out with my problems. I'll try with tigerdirect! I'll keep you posted. BL00EY! 08-24-2001, 05:34 AM i buy from them on occasion, you just have to be wary.I only buy from someone with alot(50+)positive feedback and higher as the price per item goes up.another good place to go is ubid.whichever auction site you go to always read the specs and know what your looking for. bl00 eagle1 08-24-2001, 07:22 AM Yeah! I always, always read the feedbacks! I have purchased and selled some items and my experience have been pleaseant! Try it and hope you don't get burned! Bovon 08-24-2001, 09:39 AM I buy a lot of things from eBay, but mostly stuff thats hard to find somewhere else. For a new system, I doubt I would buy it from eBay...main reason is, a new system parts like mobo, cpu ect probably wouldn't be on ebay if everything is working good. I look for bargains at eBay...I bid low, and if I get it great, if not I go find another item and place a low bid. I just recently got a K6-2+ 533 cpu for $38 bucks...these cpu's go for about $60 bucks up. I have been pretty lucky, but have been bit too...once on a CD-RW for $150 which I had to eat...long story, but in this case, I was not protected by eBay's Safe Harbour. I read the sellers feedback very carefully, and if there are more than 1 negative feed backs per 100 sales, I look at some of the negative feed backs to see how the seller responded. If the seller responded with courtesy, and made amends if called for, I will bid anyway. If the seller was a S/A and made rude comments with his/her rebutal..I dump that seller in a heart beat. TechDude 08-24-2001, 04:45 PM I bought a iwill ka266-r mobo and a athlon 1.4ghz both works fine without any problems. A friend i know bought a gainward geforce3 from ebay and its in perfect condition. Just make sure the guy has 100+ feedback, also check his feedback page .. if he has 30+ negative feedback then you prolly dont wanna buy from him. And I only buy new/unopened retail boxs off of ebay. Nobody has riped me off yet so im happy. And i usually got my stuff in less than 1 week. moebius 08-24-2001, 05:04 PM The most important thing about buying on ebay is looking at the feedback. High numbers are good, but not always. If the seller has negatives, be sure to read them; a lot of times it's retaliatory feedback. One way to tell if the negative feedback the seller has should be taken into consideration is to look at the feedback of the person who left the negative. A lot of times, the negatives are from people with very low feedback ratings (<20). I usually don't even care about those. Also be sure to see if the negatives or neutrals pertain to bad packing. That's important. I also like to look at what else the seller is selling and if they are selling well. If you have questions, DON'T ASSUME ANYTHING. Always e-mail the seller and ask questions before you bid. If they don't respond before the close of the auction, don't worry, there'll be someone else selling the exact same thing. Once you've done your research, you should check out eSnipe at http://www.esnipe.com . I bought almost everything in my computer from ebay. Everything in my case including the case are from ebay. Case/power supply, mb, cpu/fan, memory, dvd drive, cdrw, video card, sound card, hd, zip drive and modem. And almost everyone of those is from a different seller. The_dude99 08-24-2001, 05:16 PM Hey Try newegg.com They have some good prices. Everytime I go to check price watch on prices I always end up at newegg. Lol I ended up one time getting stuff off of tigerdirect and I check newegg and I get pissed because I got ripped off badly. Sorry about the long computer specs. First time I posted My specs on here ok =). System ------- AMD T-bird 1.1gig ECS K7VZA R3 Kingston PC133 512 (1 stick =) Leadtek GeForce 2 Ultra 64MB DDR (4ns) Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 40 gig ATA100 Western Digital 300watt power supply INWIN Server Tower 52x creative cd 4x4x32 hp (I know pittiful yeah) Windows XP RTM (running os) MickMitani 08-29-2001, 06:45 PM I've had mixed luck but mostly good. Worst case was when I bought some RAM for my Dell laptop. SODIMM was advertised as a Kingston 32meg EDO but turned out to be a 8meg Korean no-name - and burned out to boot! That seller had only positive feedback the week I bought my RAM. In the week following my purchase the eBayer ripped off people in 12 auctions not including me! Safe Harbor did nothing to help me either because the seller lied and said we had resolved the issue. On the other hand picked up several hard to find laptop accessories for pennies on the dollar for myself and for co-workers. Check the seller and see how long they have been around on eBay and read some of the feedback. bidzina 08-30-2001, 12:35 AM I think it's not safe, especially if you need an upgrade and going to buy a new mobo or a CPU. Very often new stuff sold on ebay by people could be refurbished or defective/not working properly. You should always ask yourself WHY is somebody selling a new product on ebay (cheap). I just bought a ECS K7SEM mobo from a guy called Timothy Rock (trock@elp.rr.com) and it was a defective, which I guess he couldn't return to ECS for warranty repairs for some reason and sold to me as a working mobo. I paid over $80 (including shipping) and it was just a waste of my money and time! Of course he didn't respond to my e-mails and requests to return money back. So, it's up to you to decide. I would never buy a new stuff for upgrade (like mobo or cpu). One could buy some old stuff for cheap, meaning people just getting rid of old working components... Just wanted to share my experience with e-bay... Bidzina bangooman 08-31-2001, 12:14 AM ebay... i would like to buy some cheaper stuffs.. but cheap isn't always good thing .. if you're wondering.. u mght wanna buy a august "pcworld" magazine and read the article where it says cheap stuffs isn't always good.. so.. be concerning with that good luck SysOpt.com
