So we've done the "what's your fav...?" threads..
How about what you guys think are the biggest dissapointments in the game wolrd of 2003.

Which game did you look forward to and it turned out to be a dud or any other way, not what you expected?

:D

gonna have to say star wars galaxies and halo, was looking forward to getting to play both, i quit galaxies after a month due to lack of late game content... and halo ... well maybe if my computer built for gaming could handle it... i might have liked it

I'm gonna have to go with Warcraft 3. The whole 3-D thing really disappontied me. I liked 2-D better, like in Starcraft. :(

Anyone played Empires: Dawn of the modern World??

I kinda like that sort of game, but this didn't add ANYTHING new to the genre.. (Ok, improved graphics, but apart from that??)Might as well play Empire Earth or Age of Empires - more or less the same. Lots of money out the window!

empires dawn of the modern world was weird... the whole "scaling" feature was odd... 5 tanks took up like the entire screen and they looked like giant ovals! And the game is made so that its like never ending... some friends and i went back and forth forever and decided that since it took 10000000 troops to take down 1 section of a wall and we all had like triple enforced walls so we all quit

Hey Frenchie...I have one for you..

Since one of my favorite games is BF 1942...I couldn't wait to get the Expansion pack ...BF 1942 Secret Wespons of WW2 and when I played it and saw that most of the maps were also on the original and the lack of anything really so extrodiary from the original.. I was really dissapointed...

The servers are not very many and the extra weapons are not so readily available...so If anyone thinks this is a must have then save your money and go buy a different game....
The original has alot of mods and extras already...

In addition ...how can anybody not find Warcraft 3 as a groundbraking game in expanse and esp..the 3D graphics....simply gorgeous and quite hard as you go along...

Also, I haven't bought any new games lately ( christmas?) , but to add to your post....i would like some more posts on the newer released strategy games....some which will be out soon ?

Lords of Everquest looks promising..

I couldny narrow it down to a single game but a dissapointment for me was HL2's delay after it's source code was leaked out to the hackers. Likewise with D3, both were originally set for a late 2003 release, I think. :(

About the delayed release of HL 2 ...how many think that this game will set a record for number of copies sold all time??

One should remember that the longer we wait..the probablility goes up for a better game and allows the makers more time to work out the quirks...
(even though we all know they are just a bunch of greedy bastxxxs, sitting back and loving every minute of our suffering.

It just better be as advertised....and i think it will.......; time for those people who need it to buy that upper end video card...now you have a good excuse..!

I can't imagine Warcraft III making it on anyones dissipointment list, it was a groundbreaking game in its genre.

I wouldn't get too excited for Lords of Everquest, I was accepted for beta and only got myself to play three games, couldn't get myself to want to play.

But I'm an American! I'll forget about the game if there aren't ads for it every 30mins!

Yeah I am happy that they are going to push it back, better is better I guess.

With every company but Valve i would agree with that, however Valve do so much in terms of encouranging and helping the modding community and the release of free content for their existing material as well as helping fledging programmers make thier first footsteps into retail games that i find it hard to label them greedy when you look at sore other games companies (*cough* EA Games *cough*)

i dont think half life 2 will beat out the sims as number 1 sold due to the fact that more than just the average gamer plays the sims... nearly EVERYONE plays it *quivers to the thought of the game*

I dont know if it was released in 2003 or not.. not too sure... might have been '02, but I got it this year under the influence it was amazing, so I guess that counts, and that was Postal 2. Far too easy, far too short.. so yeah, dissapointment there for me aswell.

Postal 2 was indeed '03

I totally agree. I found the graphics to be not all that great, and the fun factor was way down for some reason on this title for me. The only reason I found myself playing was to finish it because it had to get better, only it never did.

I know D&D54 and I are in the minority, but I just don't get the wood everyone seems to have for that game.

C&C Generals did an infinately better job with the 3d engine in a RTS.

Oh, Max Payne2 being so short really sucked too......

The most dissapointing this for me was how I managed to complete all the latest games, 'Halo, COD, MP2' to name a few, in such short spaces of time. Its about time they put a bit more challenge in the new games and addons and get a bit more worth for ur hard earned $$$'s.

I kinda liked Unreal 2:(

At the risk of drifting slightly off topic, I think a statement like this speaks volumes, and I mean that in a good way, in regards to 'bblqj78'. People complain about games piracy and how it's taking millions of £'s, $'s, whatever, away from the industry, yet it's this kind of impression that the developers are giving the gamers nowadays. If someone doesn't think a product is worth what they're being asked for in the shops, they will go elsewhere. It's the same for everything, even videogames. ( Especially videogames! )

Sorry, that's my little rant over :D

...I would have to say is unreal 2. The end was good, though.

UT2003 doesn't have the style I liked in UT, but it wasn't really a disappointment. And it was released in 2002 Anyway. :p

DXIW is kind of a disappointment, but only because it could have been much better. It was going to be much better, until they decided to dumb down everything for the xbox and leave pc gamers suffering because of the lowest common denominator.
