Would appreciate your advice on the best components for a top of the line Athlon system I will be using for voice recognition using Dragon Naturally Speaking:
(1) Best CPU: 1.4 T-Bird or should I wait for Athlon 4? Should I reconsider and get a Pentium 4 even though my heart belongs to Athlon?
(2) Best DDR board: Chip set best for voice recognition? The more memory the better? ECC or unbuffered? RAID or not? If RAID, what would be the best configuration?
(3) Best OS
(4) Best hard drive(s)
(5) Best USB microphone
(6) Anything else?
Thanks!

Please don't post the same question in multiple forums. It's confusing for people, and makes it hard to keep track of responses people give.
I left a response in this thread: http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/017560.html

Sgraffito: When you are posting a message, you can scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and there is the post with all the comments. This way you can look at the posts as you are posting, and don't have to go back and look.

As Howste said
headset/microphone
Actually it's the mic. Do yourself a favor if you want a 99% or better hit rate..
Gn Netcom 405 Flex (http://www.gnnetcom.com/usa/e.profile.html) BUT If you can try a place like this company Call One (http://www.calloneonline.com) See if you can get a refurb 405 flex (with a UNC mic if possible) and an adapter so you can plug it into your computer. I have used both the head set and the company. (I have dealt with a lot of high end VR equip. and development of cordless stuff for this kind of application)
Your computer really shouldn't matter. (if it's not a dinosaur) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Just about any microphone would do,
Sgraffito, that's just not true. Thats like saying a tape recording made across the room from an AM radio will sound the same as one made with high end equipment. No way, garble gunk in the software can't hear what your saying.

First of all...DON'T GO WITH PENTIUM!!! If for some weird reason you need to slow down or speed up your processor, you could with the Athlon, but not with Pentium!
Secondly, the more memory the better. I would reccomend 256 Mb's DDR memory. It will REALLY boost performance!
Just about any microphone would do, but I would suggest either a mic attached to headphones, or one that goes on your moniter and has long range pick-up. MAKE SURE IT HAS LONG RANGE PICK-UP! Otherwise you'll be leaning into your moniter all the time!
Umm....I can't remember your other Q's, but I'll post this and then take a look @ yours and see if I can try to help anymore.
Good luck! -Sgraffito
