What is the best CD-ROM in the market now? With no problem at all, or maybe a little.

Kind of an open ended question...
I have a TEAC540E
Is it the best? Probably not, but its a good price and it does pretty good for anything I do including gaming.

Your best bet would probably be to look around at various sites such as cnet or zdnet pcworld etc. to see various reviews. You could also look at the user reviews on this site as well. In a forum you'll mostly get opinions or a link to one of the aforementioned sites.

Everybody wants "the best" but it really depends on what you're doing. If youre just doing word processing etc. the "best" isn't really necessary.

The best CDROM is the one that does the following:

Full speed pressed CD's
Full speed CDRs
Full speed CDRWs
Full speed DAE
seek bellow 80ms (or even 70ms)

Now the Plextor Ultra40Max would be the one if it could read CDRWs at full speed.

The Kenwood 72X true would be if it could read CDRW's and CDRs proprely (and be still in the market).

So unless you got SCSI (in which case you should get the Plextor) you should see what your needs are (CDRW, DAE, subchannel) and check this site (http://www.cdspeed2000.com) to see the one that suits you best.

well I happen to have a Kenwood 72x and it reads CDRW's and CDRs just fine. I think its great, I did have a problem with it 1 time it seemed to lock up at the launch of a certin game. But it ended up beeing the game its self.

Thank you for your infos. I guess I might go with Kenwood 72x or TDK. After reading materials from that site. Thanks.
