I installed two 256MB 32x64-10ns 168pin PC100 memory modules in my Compaq Presario 7922, which has a 512MB capability. Everytime I install the memory, I get a conflict in my device manager on the System Board Extension for ACPI BIOS. My modem and video card doesn't work when the new ram is installed. In the list of conflicts it shows that it is conflicting with my US Robotics Modem and my nVidia video card. I tried just one by itself in both slots and with one of my older 64MB memory modules. When I install the original modules everything returns to normal and everything works great. The module is a Centon 256MBPC100, which I was told was compatible. Can you help me resolve this problem.

Your board simply may net be able to handle that 256 memory. I ran into a similar problem about 6-8 months ago, and I can't remember if it had to do with "density" or what about the memory. I was trying to upgrade an old Pentium I Gateway. Contact Compaqw or try going to www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com) and see if their compatibility / upgrade chart shows the proper upgrade for your computer.

Try this. Boot up with just 256mb of RAM. Open your system.ini file with Notepad and stroll down to the section header called [VCache]. Add the following lines just beneath it:

MinFileCache=131072
MaxFileCache=131072

Save and then shut off the machine. After you reinstall the other DIMM, reboot and see what happens.
