I need a new burner, I bought a Samsung 52x24x52x16 combo but it sucks, I'm going to return it to the store tomorrow. It won't burn my GQ cd-r's at anything higher than 24x

Anyone out there use GQ media? Got a burner that would do me good?

The main reason why I got this Samsung was because it can read DVD's.

Right now I don't care about it reading dvd's or not.:t

Um - should we know what "GQ media" is?

Great Quality

Honestly, it's the best media that I have ever used. I've mistreated the cd-r's and they won't flake.

I usually get them from Fry's Electronics (http://www.outpost.com/product/3586814)

I have that Samsung 52x combo drive and I'm not totally happy with it either. I can't get past plain DMA (though in theory I shouldn't need to). I bought a 50-pack spindle of Imation CD-R's that were labelled 48x (Best Buy clearance), but the drive will only burn them at 40x tops. More full disks can take like eight minutes or more. Before I was using Memorex 48x disks and they burned fast like they were supposed to. And that was without an ASPI layer installed, I now have v.4.60 on Win2k Pro, OEM Nero 5.5. I even updated the firmware at http://www.samsungodd.com

Have you tried Verbatim media? I'm gonna try them next. I'm also gonna try this drive in someone else's box and see how it performs; maybe it's just my setup.

Oh yeah, the other combo drives are by LG and Lite-On. Memorex has one too, but I'm willing to bet it's a re-brand.

yea, my poor Yamaha F1 bit the dust. :(

That's what probably killed it, dust plus alot of burning.

I was thinking on a dvd burner, but I don't have the use for one.

With the F1, I would burn 32x GQ media at 44x and it would be a full cd in about 3mins.

If I want to watch a dvd movie, I have my PS2 :D

As for the drive, it's gone. Re-sold it. I installed it in a machine that I'm upgrading for a client along with a 52x cd-rom.

I'm also including a pack of cd-'r and I will tell them to use Fujifilm media since it's recomended by Samsung.

Nothing wrong with the drive really, just won't use my favorite media :D
