Why is there little performance gain with DDR?

All of the benchmarks Ive seen show little gain with ddr vs pc 133. Why? Is it the chipsets? Is there a reason to use DDR?

What benchmarks you saw ? PC2100 DDR on VIA P4X266 shows very good results, just a little behind i850+RDRAM ...
Athlon based systems generally show about 10-20% performance boost using DDR SDRAM, too.
