Real short and sweet..............
Is one better than the other?
Or does it do something better then the other..
Just wonderin.
No one is not better than the other. They're just different types of interface. Slot interface is phasing out or should I say it already has. However, I do notice that there's a better selection of heatsink/fan for socket processors! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

If you plan to upgrade, probably a socket is the way to go. Like NDC said, slots are phasing/phased out (sniff...). I have a few computers that I can't really do much with as far as processor upgrades, because I am limited to a slotted CPU or a "Sloket" which is a slotted card you put a socketed CPU on.
As far as the ones you metioned; Socket 7 is pretty old (for Pentium MMX and AMD K6). Slot A is for AMD processors, and Slot 1 is for Intel. Opinions vary which is better. Read some posts and you'll learn a lot about it.
