New System up and going but very very slowly

I just got done building my very first not much but just some practice.

Generic ATX case 2 fans
Shuttle AK11 mobo
750 Duron AMD HSF
256Mb PC133
Abit T400 64meg Geforce2MX
Win me

I am having some very bad problems though just got windows installed after and numerous restarts. Installed 3dmark 2000 and
got 1954 marks the average is over 4500.
What is wrong i need help badly. I saw a better score with my compaq with intergrate video and 128megs of ram.

Few general things :
1. Get latest drivers/BIOS for the mobo.
2. Install latest VIA 4in1 pack.
3. Install Det3 12.90 drivers (seem to be the fastest out there).
4. Adjust memory timings in BIOS for maximum performance.

Well I got 2220 3d marks in 3dmark2k1, not sure how many that would translate to in 3dmark2k. I also have a GF2MX 64MB.

I'm sorry, but there is really no reason you need to have Windows ME installed. I don't know about the rest of the folk on this board but I've had nothing but problems with that operating system. If I were you I'd format and install Windows 2000.

I would use a different opperationg system but this is the only one i have and i dont have the money to buy a new one. Also if i were to use 2000 would i be able to run all my games.

If you've only just installed Windows you could try formatting your hard drive and starting from scratch again (something I always do if there are problems soon after installing Windows). Just make sure that you have a boot-disk (floppy) with drivers for your CD drive http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Once Windows is installed, I would install the VIA 4in1 pack, followed by your sound drivers followed by your GeForce drivers and defrag before installing 3DMark.

You could also try the Det3 12.41 drivers from www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com) just incase it's the 12.90s that are causing your lockups.

Ok i went to microsoft and downloaded the windows me updates and i have yet to see another freeze. Thanks to all of you.

I got the drivers listed above and installed them i just tested 3dmark 2k and got 5812marks major improvment. Now my only problem is very very frequent lockups. I would greatly apericiate any help.
