Hi I have 2 monitors, ones an old one, smaller han my main one that I wish to use to at least remove some clutter from my main one.
Ok the problem here is the refresh rates, as I play games I have to set the refresh rates up in Rivatuner, however its also setting the refresh rate of my second monitor upto 144hz in 800x600 mode and I then cannot reduce them as they are locked by rivatuner. I can use powerstrip to adjust it back down, but is there a way i can do this without a program being in the way.
Win XP home edition
1 newer 19 inch monitor-- up to 1600x1200, and one small 14 inch max res 800x600 @68hz

It's only something to do with the second monitor in the sense that getting a new one that will take the higher refresh rates will solve the problem.
How are the monitors connected? To a single video card, or to two different video cards? And what brand and type of video card(s) would that be?

Both monitors are connected to 1 card, Geforce 4 TI 4200.
I have a digital to analogue convertor for one monitor.
I can use powerstrip to configure the other monitor to lower its refresh rate, however I was wondering if I can set it permenantly as for a while when windows has booted my old monitor runs at 100HZ (same as my newer monitor) before powerstrip loads, kicks in and sets it down to 60hz, of course 100hz is way more than the monitor can take and I dont want to cause damage to it.

I don't know about Nvidia, but on my ATI card I can set individual refresh rates for the two monitors through the driver. I run one at 85Hz, the other at 60Hz without having to do anything with any additional software. I just shut the secondary down through windows properties before starting a game and I'm good.
Unfortunately none of our XP machines have Nvidia cards in them so I can't check for the same features in their driver. In ATI it's under display settings; and I have complete control under XP.

That's right, in
Display properties>Settings (then pick which monitor you want to adjust) >Advanced
there should be a Monitor tab, in which you can set its refresh frequency.
If that doesn't work for some reason, it should be possible to get Powerstrip to remember its settings.
