Hey everyone,

I was just wondering how to get a quiet AMD thunderbird setup. The following is the link to the heatsink and fan I use.
http://4.33.248.150/prodDetail.asp?cID=6&sku=DC1206BM-E&rB=prodlist.asp

The cases are usually Enlight with its 300w p/s. I was just wondering what setup has worked for you in terms of quietness. I use a dell 500(PIII), and I often have to check if it's on when my monitor is off because it's extremely quiet. What can i do to make an athlon just as quiet? Thanks for any comments.

Joe

Joe:

A tight aliminum case will likely solve your noise problems. I used to use a mid sixe ATX case right on my desk, but it was a medium to low end case in terms of quality and sounded like a 747! I used to think <u>it</u> was the air conditioner.

I replaced that case with a full size Inwin, which I've seen for $109.00. Very roomy and tall enough to keep on the floor under my desk. Very quiet with 7 fans. The adage: "You get what you pay for" may apply here. Oh, the HSF is a GlobalWin FOP32 fan, and the case fans are 4x120mm and 2x80mm Panaflos.

Good luck.

What made mine almost SILENT was a Noise Control Silverado h/s fan combo and 6 Sunon silencer fans (Lian-Li aluminum servercase) works GREAT!

what makes the dells quiet (at least teh p3 450 and p3 500 at work) is the lack of fan on the cpu heatsink...the two i am familiar with had a small case fan that was operating at low speed, and just drew air out of the case right next to the cpu.

A comment and a question....

Comment:
Try Koolance's premade watercooled cases. www.koolance.com (http://www.koolance.com)
I know tomshardware.com bashed these things but he was using the case made for under 1 Gig processors on a 1.2 Gig Athlon. I have read many success stories about these things from people who record pro audio in recording studios.

Question:
Where did you get the Noise Control Silverado and how much was it??? Can't find it anywhere in the US.

I ordered the Silverado directly from the manufacturer in Germany, I got the 2nd version of it with the 50g hunk of silver, comes with 4 different pigtails to adjust the voltage/speed---it was about 80$ shipped...

well my dell optiplex is very sturdy. you can stand on the desktop...well practically. the case is made of a very sturdy plastic in addition to a metal plate underneath that. i think dell has the best case. everything snaps into place by metal brackets. no screws needed. too bad the generics cant seem to figure that out. instead of adding stupid plastic moldings or add fake vent trims on the sides that dont serve any purpose. i think that's why the dell is so quiet.
