I noticed it when I woke up this morning. The orange cable activity LED is solid all the time and blinks rarely. I'm still getting internet and nothing seems out of the ordinary except the light is constantly on.

I contacted my ISP (Optimum Online) and they are not aware of anyone else having this issue. I do believe it's something on their end because as soon as I plug in the power to the cable modem, the light turns/stays on... even before it acquires a cable link light (a green light) to its left.

It's similar to what happened when the Code Red virus came around and my ISP was having these issues, but the cable activity LED blinked constantly, not stay on constantly. They told me I was the first person to have this problem this week... so they don't believe it's a virus thing.

I've already done a full-system scan on my machine (WIN2k) & rebooted (PC, modem, & Linksys). IIS5 is not even active on here since last week. Any ideas?

Weird. My cable modem's receive light (RD) has been blinking constantly since the time the code red virus went around. And it's still doing it right now. But like you say, nothing seems to adversly affected by this activity. My download speeds are as fast as they ever were and gaming is lag-free.

So, basically what I'm saying is [shrug] I dunno.

Is your firewall identifying the source of hits?

Yeah, same here on my end. The REC light on my cable modems been blinking since that Code Red virus also. I see no effect in connection speeds either...

RH71, I'm an OOL user, too. What modem do you have? Do you subscribe to the OOL message boards on Yahoo and/or DSL Reports? If not, I strongly suggest checking them out. The solid activity light is a frequent subject of conversation, although I haven't paid it much attention since it's not an issue for me.

Don't be surprised that the stupid techs won't tell you this is something that happens to a number of users. Those people really need to get another job, like giving people wring directions in NYC!

Same here for the past 3-4 weeks. My activity light is blinking so fast it does appear to be on constsntly. I just thought it was the code red. Nothing appears to be affected by it. My router lights are normal so I have just been ignoring it also.

ZA has been reporting alot of hit recently - as much as 60+ a day from different ip's. Makes ya wonder.

Well my firewall is actually the Linksys router and I have all ports, except for FTP, left closed. I even just tried closing the FTP ports and it's still doing it,...

See I don't believe it has anything to do with my setup at all. As soon as I plug in the cable modem's power, it starts acting this way, even if my computer is off and my CAT5 is out of it. It's gotta be something coming from my ISP. It wouldn't be so weird if this has been happening since Code Red a couple weeks ago... but it had in fact stopped and just started SOLID this time around.

I just got a reply from DSLReports forum... http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,1334667;mode=flat

At least now I know my modem's not going bad or something.
