I am looking for a case fan and it seems you can either get 3 or 4 pin.

Do all 4 pins plug into PS and all 3 pins into mobo? Fair assumption?

Well the 3 pin fan is designed to plug into the motherboard. BUT if the fan draws too much current it can burn out your motherboard headers. You can get a 3pin to 4 pin adapter so you can attatch any 3 pin fan to the powersupply.

How much is too much? How do you know how much current? Is it a spec on the fan?
