IE6 shouldn't be defaulting to starting up automatically unless something is telling it to. What page does it try to go to? Possibly adware/spyware?

Also, check programs like MSN Messenger. The newer versions try to launch MSN's home page when they start at Windows startup.

Check your Start-->All Programs-->Startup folder.

If all else fails, check msconfig to see what's actually launching at startup, and try to pinpoint the app causing it.

since it's win2k, you'll have to download and use the winxp version of msconfig:

thanks guys.. yes, MSN did launch the home page (this is a work computer) and the msconfig trick worked... the computer had no msconfig on it for some reason but with that download I'm all set. Thanks again!! -Z

win2k doesn't come with msconfig. that's why you need to use the one from xp.
