can i mix cas2 with cas 3?
what is the downside if any?

Hi, I don't think you'll have any problems mixing the two, however, you have to set the bios to run one or the other. Most cas3 ram can be run sucessfully at cas 2. Probably under advanced chipset options in the bios you can set it to cas 2. Try running both sticks at 2, and make sure that the one that is rated 2 is the one in the first mem socket(the first one the system accesses). If you get any blue screens, or instability change it to 3 and you should be fine. Hope this helps.

Cas 2 and cas 3 will run quite well together. Cas 2 will run at a higher bus frequency than cas 3 will, but if someone is not overclocking, this rarely ever causes any problems, if ever.
