internet via cellphone

I have this aunt that wants to give her kid a laptop with internet access using a cellphone. This way he can access the internet when he is outside. Besides a cell phone what else would I need to set this up. And also can I use any cellphone or is there any specific phone you would recommend.

You need a cellphone capable of making data calls...you can then usually download software from the cellphone's web site (Nokia, Motorolla, etc.) and connect through the IR port on the Laptop and the IR port on the phone, or by using a cable...

Also look into the Bluetooth technology, as connecting over a cellphone is sooooooo slooooow.
