My heart sinks every time I download a new game demo. Remember when you would get 4 or 5 demos on a single 1.44Mb floppy on the cover of computer magazines.

I use them for backups on my quicken and family tree. Also, some install discs are still floppy ( my tape backup is ). Not alot other than that. One day, if the BIOS will support it, usb sticks and cd roms will be boot devices. Cd's are, but you still need a floppy to install 95,98 and ME, if you want to fdisk, format and install.

But, I do still use them..by the scads. Just bought 40 more yesterday in a nice Memorex plastic case for $5.99 (on sale).

I remember those games. Games that had substance and inteligence instead of just eye candy wrapped around a pathetic story and a few guns that in the real world would be impossible to lift, let alone use.
Remember the original 2 monkey island games (before lucasarts virtually killed the good points with the sequels), 5 1.2Mb floppy disks and it lasted me for months. New games seldom last more than 2 days and they come on 2 CDs (500 odd times the data).

Well, in that case, let me bring up my old Sierra games (King Quest, Space Quest...) I still have a few of them.

They used to come in 3.5 floppies and the 5.25 flappies!! Some of the best games I ever played due to the fact that they took forever, and relied on substance over looks!

Those were the days....
