Okay, this is possibly a stupid question and its not really very important, just a bit annoying.

All my computers are in the home workgroup. Did a clean install of XP home last week. Athlon 1300 cpu, old compaq mobo w/ onboard audio, video, lan.

Everything fine, running great but it keeps defaulting to the MSHOME workgroup. Have searched and read some M$ stuff and realize this is the default workgroup but also know i should be able to change it. Have read that article as well.

Everytime i change the workgroup to the home workgroup like all the rest it hesitates for a second then pops up the screen "welcome to home workgroup"

At this point i can browse and see all the rigs in the home group. As soon as i restart im back in the MSHOME workgroup again. Have tried this as two differant users with admin rights. Same thing. What gives? I know get XP Pro. I want to figure this out though. Seems pretty stupid.

Like i said, not real important, just annoying.

I can still get on it by browsing the entire network then going into the MSHOME workgroup and it sees most everything by clicking computers near me. Picks up everything in the home workgroup after 30 seconds or so.

Is there something really stupid im missing?

Right Click on the My Computer icon

Choose Properties.

In System Properties click on the TAB computer name.

Click on the Change and change the name of the Work Group.

Done that, at least 5 times that i can remember. Thats when it pops up welcome to home workgroup, you must restart.

As soon as i restart im back in MSHOME again. It wont stay in home.

Could change the rest of computers to MSHOME workgroup but i like my current config.

Try the networking wizard.
