Workstation: XP Pro SP1+updates
Server: W2K SP4+updates

On th fileserver are files wich are read only in XP.
The same files arent't read only in W2K (on another workstation).

When I try to change the properties to not read only in XP (uncheck read only in prop's) he changes this to read only.
But when I look to the file again, it turns back on, read only again.

I also have the problem taht when someone makes a file in XP and tries to delete it again, he cannot do so.
Only when he logs off and on he can delete the file.

What can be the cause of this strange behavior??

Thnx
Michel

The folder on the server could have security settings so that the workstation in question has read-only access to its contents. Check that on the server first.

.....sounds like it's happening on files he's using or creating on either the server and/or his workstation - besides the security settings that should exist on the server it may also depend on what type of files you're trying to change attributes on? Can you give us some examples on file type?

If these are files on a server, and you're mapping to them from a client, you're going to have to check both NTFS permission and Share permission. Either one, or both, of those could be adding to the mess.

A good rule of thumb is to set your folder hierarchy up so that as you drill down, the permissions become more restrictive.

What exactly is it you're trying to accomplish and with what files/folder?
