Why my Hercules GTXP sucks!

I bought the Hercules Game Theatre XP sound card/breakout box combo and it sucks. Apparently I can't get 5.1 sound out other then from DVD's (why?) and also I only get 2 sounds from MP3's (why)....

I think I'll take 'er back and get the SB live 5.1 and save myself some bucks.

Anybody had experiences whith this sound card and why I shouldn't get rid of it?

My TBSC does 5.1 from other sources.
It cant be much different, based on the same chip. Teh optical output is only a direct feed from the AC3 of DVD's, so if your using an external decoder, I can understand it.

What else are you trying to get it from? Not even the SB-Live will do optical out from games, if that is what your thinking.

Nope, not using optical out right now. Right now I have the Altec Lasing 4.1 speakers connected to the analog ports but want to just get 5.1 from all my sound stuff.

Is this possible with mp3's and games? Or do they only support 2 channels (+ sub).

I am not sure what to do.
