Why go to all the trouble of creating a new email client? Just about everyone on the face of the planet uses IE or netscrape (for those still living in caves and wearing the badly cured skins of your last meal).
The Linux 'community' is full of this sort of crud. People who are so short-sighted or bill-gates-hating that they can't see that a wintel solution is far more practical that trying to get stuff to run under linux and still be compatible and able use existing standards.

Well no one's forcing you to use the "crud." A little healthy competition is good. At the very least it'll keep the e-mail client kings running to make better products so the crud doesn't overtake them. I don't think it is wise to encourage reliance on any one method or company.

I use Thunderbird and find it much better than OE. I especially like the fact that it doesn't have MSN Messenger tied to it.

Mozilla-based stuff is definitely heading in the right direction. It just needs to be slightly more DOM-compliant and support VBScript - then it will be a winner.

As for thunderbird, it's a lot faster than OE

well, I've been using it for a few days now and find this much better than Outlook or OE for email. It keeps all my many accounts separate and makes it much easier to manage. Much faster than Outlook too. My 2 cents...

Last time Outlook took two minutes to
boot, I think from the new updates.
Thunderbird boots in 2 seconds, and
has the best free spam filter around.
Also has no trouble with attachnments.
Very nice code.

Well Ive just found an even better browser - been plkaying with it all day and its increased my productivity 2fold.

Might even be my program of the year!
That and virtual pc.

If your outlook takes 2 minutes to load, I doubt it's the program's fault, I'd look elsewhere.

I've used Outlook since 97, POP mail, Exhange server and Groupwise email...I can't even say it took that long via dial up to an exchange server...

The main reason for slow startup of outlook or even outlook express are usually the sizes of the database .dbx files and loading the rules for mail!

Try compacting the folders and removing the gunk!

Only OE uses .dbx files.
Outlook uses a single .pst file per mail store..

Unless you're talking Exchange server...

I was merely using it as an example!

If using outlook with an exchange server there are many reasons for slow performance including site replication , sync with ipaq , corrupt mailbox etc etc etc

IF he was using Outlook and exhange, I'd try another PC, if they had the preference .prf file set up correctly, that is, and see if it is equally slow...

They could narrow it down to PC or Exchange server performance there...

Actually I use both Outlook and some
Mozilla variation regularly. Sure enough
all the spam filters were slowing down
load time significantly. Removing all the
garbage brought the load time down
to 19 seconds. T-bird is still .5 seconds.

The Mozilla variations are welcome with my very slow internet connection, sometimes only 26.4 Kbps, then again I've used Netscape since the 2.0 version.

I use MYIE2 as well... By far the best browser I've ever used.
Built in ad/content and popup blocking, plugins, extremely good privacy control with cookies etc, undo closing of pages, and recovery of pages visited if your computer for some strange reason crashes. Plus hundreds of other features..
