Internet service...

Why aren't the prices coming down? DSL and Cable Modems are all over the place now, but yet they are still normally between $40 and $50 a month. And at the same time all the dial up providers are raising there prices too.

What gives?

I think it won't get any lower. They have spent a lot of money laying fiber optic. It'll take a while to recoup that.
Also $40-$50 minus $20 for dial-up minus $17 or so for a second phone is not that bad.

The demand is actually slowing down for DSL and cable customers. Most people who want and can attain broadband do. The providers are now trying to penetrate the lesser computer savvy markets but they are not having much success. Non-computer techie people just don't see the need to spend 50 bucks a month for a service they will hardly use. The other obstacle is extending access to people who want service, but lay in undeveloped or distanced areas. The broadband companies do not want to spend big bucks on developing these low-density areas because they will make less money. I read this on CNN sometime last week but too lazy to look for the link.

If I had to pay what you guys in the States pay for Cable/DSL then I would be on dial up only. Geez $40 US is like $60 Canadian but Cable here across the country is only $40 CDN or about $27 US
Go Figure why you have to pay so much

PS - DSL is also $39.95 or $29.95 CDN if you have your own modem

These idiot companys want to make BIG $$$ (yes $$$ not $$) for crappy service.

They will wake up sooner or later, when no one buys their service because it is about as reliable as a rusty old jalopy and it costs as much as a 2002 Mercades-Benz
