hello

i have just installed a new powercolor radeon 9200SE 128MB vid card on a fresh install of XP Home with SP1a & downloaded the updates & cannot play Max Payne or Quake 3.

I can get as far as the menu screens & then when i select play the game shuts down & returns to windows.

I have tried the latest catalyst drivers from ATI but still the same.

Am able to play Age of Empires, IGI --- these are the only games i have to test.

have tried direct X 9 & 8 still no go.

all help is greatly appreciated

How is XP's general health otherwise?

Have you completely uninstalled the old drivers?

have you tried reseating the card or downloading updates for the games?

I had a similar issue with my Radeon after my system got hosed. Try running the Directx diagnostics (Start -> Run -> DXDIAG). It sounds like the directx 8 support is messed up. If it runs all the directx diag tests then you might want to make sure the drivers from your previous card are completely uninstalled. (Use Safe mode to determine.) I would do a complete uninistall of the drivers from the previous vid card if they still exist, uninstall the current ati drivers, and then re-install them.

I used the Cat 3.6es after my card wouldn't run DX8 properly. Those worked fine. Also make sure the card is seated correctly as advised previously.

A 9200 SE that won't play games very well if at all, and you are suprised?

OK, that was less than helpfull and maybe even a little mean spirited but dude left himself wide open...

Are you having this trouble in any other aspect of the system? How old is your HD? How big is your Power supply? Is your AGP slot a 4x?

Need more info to help :t
